Programs

Mom Starts Here serves families in Albany,  Schenectady, and Rensselaer Counties. Clients must be Medicaid, WIC or SNAP recipients. Exceptions can be made for non-US Residents. 

Coaching & Resource Navigation: Clients meet with a Care Coordinator to discuss needs, goals, and setbacks. Coaching is done with the client to set actionable steps towards goals, provide referrals to community resources, and empower clients with mindset shifts. Care Coordinators work to get a holistic view of client needs as individuals, parents, and community members. 

Parent Education: Parent Education classes are conducted in Family, Women and Children Shelters, as well as one on one for individual clients. Courses available are Infant 101 (newborn-2 years), Toddler Basics (2-4 years), and Early Childhood (5-7 years). 

Diaper Assistance: Families are provided a monthly supply of diapers for each diaper-wearing child, delivered in the mail once a month. 

Baby Items: Parents who are in need of safe sleeping (pack n play) and travel( car seat) essentials are provided with them. They also receive baby items and accessories such as gently used clothing, blankets, hats, socks, shoes, chairs, swings, nursing essentials, bottles, and more.

Community Baby Showers: Baby Showers are held in accessible community locations within Albany, Rensselaer, Schenectady Counties. Showers are open to the public, where expectant mothers and parents of children 0-5 are provided with gently used baby clothes and baby items. 

We continue to be a resource for families along their parenting journey. Our goal is to help you grow individually and as a parent. As client’s circumstances change,  Mom Starts Here will continue to advise, equip and encourage as parents face their future with hope.
